Spring is here! Finally! For those of us that have spent the winter huddled up near heaters in our frozen tundra shanties, sitting next to our best fishing companions with thermoses, snacks, and hope, we are ready for this! You and the select few who jumped at the chance to hunker down in the freezing cold waiting for that awe inspiring tug on the line or flag in the air, deserve this! Whether you’re sitting on a large lake shoreline rock with your feet kicked over the sides, your favorite Ugly Stick in hand, or listening to the trickle and swoosh of the water as the paddle of your kayak gently glides through it for the first time this year, this is what we’ve been waiting for! So let the excitement begin! To launch your season off on the right “fin”😉, we have listed our Top 5 Bass Fishing Location tips for all of you out there who have waited, planned, and prepared for this very moment all winter, here they are:

  1. Fish weed beds- crankbaits and spinnerbaits can work the bed quickly, fancast (you can find definitions to common fishing terms on our fishing terms page), then you can slow down with worms and jigs to fish it more thoroughly.
  2. Fish Points and Drop-offs (close to shallows)- to find points, look at the land layout on shore. A ridge coming down to water’s edge will continue out into the water.
  3. Early season, look for the warmest water in a given area- inlets, rocks, and timber, that hold heat.
  4. In faster moving rivers- look for slack water spots or obstructions (i.e. large rocks, down trees, backside of small islands) that slow/provide break from the current
  5. Fish docks- start near the front, after a couple of casts move to the middle and then to the back (closest to shore). Docks closer to channels or deep water are more favorable than those located on expansive flats.
